My son Zev is in his last year at Elysian Heights Elementary, a public arts magnet (K–5) known for its creative curriculum and tight knit community. We decided on EHAM because of the student to teacher ratio, its history in the neighborhood (it opened in 1915), and the strong emphasis on visual and performing arts.
The school keeps both parents and students engaged through events such as the 5K trail run (known as Donavan’s Run, dedicated to the memory of student Donovan Castellanos), the Arts Festival (which showcases student work from throughout the year alongside live music performances) and the always fun, family-friendly fall Harvest Festival.
If you’d like to hear more about our experience over the past 6 years, please feel free to reach out. And to learn more about the school’s mascot, neighborhood cat ‘Room 8,” this is a fun read.
